macintosh quadra-series
The quadra 700 was powered by a 25 MHz 68040 processor, which included an FPU. It was the first in a new family of macs, and was the first mac to ship in a tower case (a IIcx case on its side, with the label rotated 90 degrees). The quadra 900 was more expandable than the quadra 700 and could be upgraded to 256 megabytes of RAM, an astronomical amount for the time, when a typical midrange system would come equipped with 2–4 MB. The high RAM and storage capacity, along with the expandability of five NuBus 90 slots and fast 25 MHz processor, made it a very useful computer for scientific or design work. System 7.0.1 was included and supports up to mac OS 8.1. It is the earliest macintosh model with the ability to run mac OS 8. The quadra 800 was as fast as the quadra 950, for nearly half of its original price. It shipped in a newly designed mini-tower case, and was powered by a 33 MHz 68040 processor. The quadra 840AV included AV features and break the 33 MHz barrier. Based on the 40 MHz 68040 processor, and housed in a Quadra 800-style case, the 840AV was the fastest mac ever.
