All of the vintage apple computers listed in my collection
have been restored or still need to be restored
This includes a thorough cleaning of the mainboard in normal water with kitchen cleaner. All capacitors must be replaced. This is often the case with the power supplies too; the rifa-capacitors must be replaced in any case. You only want to experience this unpleasant surprise once. The backup batteries must be removed, even in the powerbooks, which often have small flat batteries built in that can also leak. With the powerbooks, the nickel batteries must also be removed from the battery case. The plastic cases are a challenge because the plastic has become brittle and fragile after 30 years. With the powerbooks, the hinges have also become hard, so that the screws in the plastic break. The yellowed plastic can be healed with hydrogen peroxide and UV light, but not the dark plastic of the powerbooks. The colored TFT displays can develop acetic acid syndrome. That's why my room is air-conditioned, at 18-22 degrees and 35% humidity. So I'm always looking for spare parts.
