Powerbook Duo 250
The powerbook duo 250 was one of the most powerful and elegant notebooks apple built in the mid-1990s. Released in 1994, it belonged to the powerbook duo series, which focused on maximum portability and a docking concept.
Inside, it was powered by a motorola 68030 running at 33 MHz. This made the duo 250 exceptionally fast for a notebook of its time, especially for computationally intensive tasks. An integrated FPU made it attractive for graphics, layout, and scientific applications.
The device had 4 MB of soldered-on RAM, expandable to 28 MB via a duo RAM module. Storage was provided by a SCSI hard drive, usually 250 MB, which was quite generous for a subnotebook at the time. The operating system ranged from System 7.1.1 to Mac OS 7.6.1.
A key feature was the 9-inch active-matrix grayscale display with 640 × 400 pixels and 16 shades of gray. It was very sharp, fast, and significantly better than the passive displays of earlier models – but only monochrome. A color version of the duo 250 was not available; those wanting color had to later opt for the PowerBook duo 270c.
