imac G4

Based around a 15-inch LCD screen, the imac brought both the G4 processor and the CD-RW/DVD-R „super drive" to the consumer space for the first time. The imac (flat panel) featured an entirely new case design, built around the idea of a screen that could rotate and change angles easily. The "desk lamp" design was mounted atop a semi-spherical base, 10.6 inches in diameter, which housed the rest of the computer. The machine had been developed over the course of two years, and was the culmination of apple's move away from CRT displays. Steve Jobs proudly announced, when this new imac was released, that "The CRT is officially dead."  The imac (17") was identical to the 15" flat panel imac, but added a 17" 1440x900 screen.  The imac (USB 2.0) was primarily a speed bump of the existing imac line, with feature improvements to the 20“ flat panel with a resolution of 1680 by 1050.
